For government

Public trust is the asset you are protecting.

The F.O.C.U.S. Decision-Maker's Diagnostic gives public-sector teams a shared language for AI governance, aligned to the NIST AI Risk Management Framework. Individual scores stay private. Aggregate patterns become briefing-ready artifacts.

Who this is for

  • City Manager
  • Mayor's Office
  • City Attorney
  • CIO or CTO
  • Communications Director
  • HR or Labor Relations

Risk briefs

Legal and compliance exposure

Labor exposure
algorithmic surveillance, displacement, human in the loop protections

NIST AI RMF crosswalk

The F.O.C.U.S. layers map directly onto the NIST AI Risk Management Framework functions. This lets agencies use the diagnostic as both a readiness instrument and a governance artifact.

Guiding questions by layer

F: Foundation

  • What must this system, season, goal, relationship, project, or decision understand about my values, reality, responsibilities, boundaries, needs, and desired direction?

O: Opportunity

  • Where am I repeatedly sorting, deciding, delaying, avoiding, rebuilding, overthinking, or carrying something alone?

C: Create

  • What needs to be expressed, built, practiced, shared, designed, written, organized, or made?

U: Uplift

  • Where could clearer communication, better timing, more care, or thoughtful personalization help someone feel seen, supported, and guided?

S: Support

  • What rhythms, reviews, relationships, resources, and maintenance practices will help this grow without becoming another abandoned idea?

Commitments

  1. Privacy: Know what information enters each tool, notebook, database, conversation, or shared space, and what should remain protected.
  2. Permission: Get meaningful consent before using another person's words, data, likeness, story, or private information.
  3. Verification: Check important facts, sources, calculations, assumptions, and outputs before they shape decisions or reach other people.

  5. Human Accountability: Keep a named person responsible for consequential decisions, sensitive communication, and the final standard of care.
